History

The Genesis of a Movement

The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) was born out of a critical need to address the escalating menace of cultism, which had transcended the confines of tertiary institutions to permeate all levels of society. Its inception in August 2015 marked the beginning of a concerted effort to combat this societal ill, starting from the Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria.

A National Call to Action

The initiative gained significant momentum and recognition, culminating in a national launch on March 12, 2020, in Abuja. This pivotal moment was not just a ceremonial event but a clarion call to all Nigerians to stand united against the scourge of cultism and its associated vices.

Community-Oriented Policing at Its Core

POCACOV was founded on the principles of community-oriented policing, a paradigm shift from traditional law enforcement methods. The campaign recognized that the fight against cultism required more than just punitive measures; it necessitated a preventive approach, engaging communities as active participants in safeguarding their environment.

Expanding Horizons

Over the years, POCACOV has evolved from a localized campaign into a nationwide movement. It has garnered support from various sectors, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, religious groups, and civil society. This collaborative effort has significantly amplified the campaign's reach and impact.

Innovative Strategies for a Safer Tomorrow

POCACOV has introduced a range of innovative strategies to engage and educate the public. From school and community outreach programs to partnerships with youth organizations and the media, the campaign has employed a multi-faceted approach to spread its message and effect change.

Looking to the Future

Today, POCACOV stands as a beacon of hope and a testament to what can be achieved when communities and law enforcement join forces. As we look to the future, we remain committed to expanding our reach, enhancing our programs, and continuing our fight against cultism and other vices. Together, we are paving the way for a safer, more secure Nigeria.

A Legacy of Impact

The history of POCACOV is not just a chronicle of events; it is a legacy of impact, a journey of transformation, and a narrative of hope. As we continue to write the chapters of this story, we invite you to be a part of this enduring legacy, to contribute to a movement that is shaping the future of our nation.
